We are licensed and experienced nature guides specializing in Eastern Hokkaido, with the secondary focus of conducting lectures on the preciousness of life as told through the story of Tancho. (Tancho is the Japanese word for Red-Crowned Crane.)
We moved to Kushiro in Eastern Hokkaido in 2020 and were fascinated by the interconnectedness of wildlife chaining life together in nature.
Our main fields of expertise are Kushiro Shitsugen National Park, Japan’s largest wetland, and Akan-Mashu National Park, the land of volcanoes, lakes, and forests. We connect guests with the breathtaking and magnificent nature of these areas, as well as the people who call them home.

We call our base of operations “Nature Grand. Sarorun Kamuy.”
The name “Nature Grand” carries our respect for the nature of Eastern Hokkaido, and reflects our commitment to continue activities rooted in the land (Ground).
“Sarorun Kamuy” means “God of the reed fields” or “God dancing over the wetlands” in the Ainu language, and refers to Tancho. By naming our project after the Tancho, considered the noblest creature in this region and a symbol of life, we wanted to express our reverence for nature and our desire to be a “bridge” connecting people and nature through even just a single photo or guided experience.
We aim to carry out activities that let visitors take something wonderful back with them after visiting to use as “spice” for their life back home.
